Energy metabolism
Thiamine is required for the enzymes that convert carbohydrate into usable energy, and deficiency produces profound fatigue that resolves on repletion. In people whose intake is already adequate, extra thiamine has not been shown to change energy or fatigue.
What may be going on: Thiamine pyrophosphate is the cofactor for pyruvate dehydrogenase, alpha-ketoglutarate dehydrogenase and transketolase — three chokepoints in glucose oxidation.
Moderate evidence. Several human studies point the same way, with real caveats.
