Meta-analyses across hundreds of trials show creatine supplementation improves performance in repeated high-intensity efforts lasting up to about 30 seconds, and increases maximal strength gains during resistance training. It is the best-supported performance supplement available and the effect size is large enough to be practically meaningful.
What may be going on: Increased muscle phosphocreatine accelerates resynthesis of ATP during brief maximal effort, allowing more work before fatigue.
Strong evidence. Consistent findings across multiple good-quality human studies.
