Exercise performance
Small trials of mushroom blends containing cordyceps report improved ventilatory threshold and time to exhaustion in recreationally active adults. Effects in trained athletes are smaller or absent, the blends make attribution to cordyceps itself impossible, and several studies were manufacturer-funded.
What may be going on: Proposed improvements in oxygen utilisation and ATP availability. The supporting measurements are ventilatory rather than mechanistic, so the pathway is inferred.
Limited evidence. Early human work, or mostly lab and animal research.
