Freeze-dried or enzymatically hydrolysed oyster meat, sold in capsules mainly for zinc content and for claims about male hormones. Oysters are the densest common food source of zinc.
The zinc content is real and is the only well-founded thing about this product: oysters contain more zinc per gram than any other common food, and zinc genuinely matters for testosterone synthesis in people who are deficient. Everything after that is inference. No trial has tested oyster extract for testosterone, libido or fertility in men with normal zinc status, and correcting a deficiency is a different proposition from adding zinc to an adequate diet. Two further issues attach. Oysters are filter feeders that concentrate cadmium and other metals from their water, and zinc supplementation at sustained high intake causes copper deficiency, which is a genuine and sometimes serious clinical problem.
Occasionally milligrams of zinc per serving; many products state only the weight of oyster powder, which does not indicate the zinc delivered — a product without this marker may not resemble what was studied.

Zinc is concentrated in prostate tissue and is required for testosterone synthesis, and correcting a genuine deficiency raises testosterone in deficient men. No trial has tested oyster extract itself for prostate or hormonal outcomes, and adding zinc on top of an already adequate intake has not been shown to raise testosterone in men with normal status.

Oyster is a mollusc and a recognised allergen capable of causing anaphylaxis. Anyone with a shellfish or mollusc allergy should avoid it entirely.
Too much
Zinc excess causes copper deficiency
Sustained high zinc intake blocks copper absorption and can produce copper-deficiency anaemia and, in serious cases, an irreversible neurological syndrome resembling subacute combined degeneration. This is a documented consequence of long-term zinc supplementation, and it is easier to reach when the zinc source is not labelled.

Oysters are filter feeders that concentrate cadmium and other metals from surrounding water, and elevated levels have been measured in shellfish from some regions. A daily concentrated capsule is a long-term exposure that most products do not test for or disclose.
