Energy metabolism
Nicotinamide riboside raises blood NAD reliably, which is a real and reproducible finding. Trials measuring what that does — mitochondrial function, exercise capacity, fatigue — have generally found no difference from placebo.
What may be going on: NR is converted to NAD via the nicotinamide riboside kinase pathway, bypassing the rate-limiting step used by other B3 forms. NAD is the electron carrier of oxidative metabolism and a substrate for sirtuins and PARP enzymes.
Limited evidence. Early human work, or mostly lab and animal research.
