Liver markers
Some trials report modest reductions in liver enzymes, particularly in metabolic liver disease, while the largest and best-conducted trials in hepatitis C and alcohol-related liver disease found no benefit on meaningful outcomes. Reviewers describe the overall evidence as not convincing.
What may be going on: Silybin stabilises hepatocyte membranes and blocks amatoxin uptake in laboratory models, which is the basis of the intravenous antidote.
Limited evidence. Early human work, or mostly lab and animal research.
