Cardiovascular risk markers
Pooled trials of hawthorn extract added to standard heart failure therapy report improved exercise tolerance and symptom scores. A large trial designed to measure cardiac death found no overall reduction, so symptom benefit and outcome benefit are not the same thing here.
What may be going on: Procyanidins have been linked to increased myocardial contractility and coronary blood flow in preclinical models.
Limited evidence. Early human work, or mostly lab and animal research.
