Sleep quality
Small trials report that 3 g of glycine before bed improves subjective sleep quality and next-day alertness, with one polysomnography study showing faster progression to slow-wave sleep. The trials are small, from a limited number of groups and partly manufacturer-supported.
What may be going on: Glycine acts at NMDA receptors in the suprachiasmatic nucleus and produces peripheral vasodilation and a small fall in core body temperature, which normally accompanies sleep onset.
Limited evidence. Early human work, or mostly lab and animal research.
