Body composition
Meta-analyses find a statistically detectable but very small reduction in fat mass — on the order of a kilogram over six months — with no consistent effect on body weight. Set against measurable adverse effects on insulin sensitivity and HDL cholesterol at the same doses, the balance is not favourable.
What may be going on: The trans-10,cis-12 isomer suppresses stearoyl-CoA desaturase and lipoprotein lipase in adipose tissue. The same pathway appears to drive the insulin resistance seen in trials.
Limited evidence. Early human work, or mostly lab and animal research.
