About Algal EPA

EPA produced from microalgae such as Nannochloropsis, or from Schizochytrium strains engineered or selected to accumulate EPA. A much newer product than algal DHA.

For years the vegan omega-3 market could supply DHA but not meaningful EPA, which mattered because the mood and inflammation literature is EPA-weighted. Algal EPA closes that gap in principle. In practice the human evidence is thin: there are absorption and omega-3 index studies showing algal EPA raises blood EPA as expected, and almost no clinical outcome trials using an algal EPA product specifically. Anyone buying it is extrapolating from the fish oil literature, which is a reasonable extrapolation to make and should be labelled as one.
