Healthy blood pressure
Meta-analyses of small trials report reductions in systolic blood pressure of roughly 5 to 8 mmHg in people with hypertension, with little effect in those with normal readings. Trials are small, preparations differ substantially, and industry funding is common, so the size of the effect is less certain than its direction.
What may be going on: Garlic sulphur compounds have been linked to hydrogen sulphide signalling and nitric oxide-mediated vasodilation.
Moderate evidence. Several human studies point the same way, with real caveats.
